CAIE O Level Physics (5054)

The Cambridge O Level Physics (5054) syllabus introduces learners to the principles that explain how the universe works — from motion, energy, and forces to electricity, waves, and the structure of matter. This course encourages students to think scientifically, solve problems, and apply physics to both everyday life and modern technological developments.

By studying this syllabus, learners will build a solid understanding of mechanics, thermal physics, properties of waves, electricity and magnetism, atomic physics, and the relationship between physics and society. The course also develops experimental skills, enabling students to design investigations, collect data, and draw logical conclusions.

Assessment Structure:

• Paper 1: Multiple Choice (1 hour)
  40 compulsory multiple-choice questions covering the full syllabus content.

• Paper 2: Theory (1 hour 45 minutes)
  Structured and short-answer questions testing knowledge, application, and problem-solving in core and extended physics topics.

• Paper 3: Practical Test (1 hour 30 minutes)
  A hands-on assessment where students perform experiments, take measurements, and analyze results to demonstrate their practical physics skills.

• Paper 4: Alternative to Practical (1 hour) (for candidates not taking Paper 3)
  A written paper that assesses experimental and investigative skills, including designing procedures and interpreting data.
